State Spending on Higher Education: study done for NCHEM
Summary:
This article takes a look at several studies on how much States across the country are spending on higher education. All studies showed a rise in the amount of money spent on higher education at the state and local level. The State Spending on Higher Education study projected into the future to 2010 predicting what funding would be needed to keep schools running.
Audience and agenda
This publication is geared towards faculty, and students in college. State and local decision makers on education policy would be another audience. Change presents articles on all aspects of higher education. This bi-monthly journal has 12,868 paid subscribers.
Usefulness:
This article gave me good look at how students are paying for college and the affect that it has on them later on in life. The main way that students pay for college is through financial aid. Low income students are not able to get enough financial aid to pay for college. The economy also plays a big part in whether or not students can afford college. This new education plan could not have come at a better time, because in the current economy not many families can afford to send their children to college.

Some are forced to take jobs in college, which takes their focus away from school; some take multiple. It also talks about the debt they are accumulating. This article is import because it shows that we need more grants for low-income students. [...]

Hi! My name is Becca and I work at Campus Progress, the youth outreach division of the Center for American Progress, here in Washington D.C. We just launched a campaign called “Students Over Banks” or “SOB” for short. We’re campaigning for more college affordability and we hope you can help us with a little bit of publicity. We know you have a lot of influence and we were wondering if you could share our promotional video for our campaign.
The video is located here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0lfNKGOf14
And our campaign website is here: http://www.studentsoverbanks.org
Thank you so much, we really want to get a lot of young people involved so all your help matters!
